One person injured after helicopter crash in Far North

Earlier today, a Robinson helicopter tipped over during take-off, carrying two passengers. The aircraft sustained damage, and one person was transported to the hospital for treatment.

The incident occurred at Whangaroa in the Far North about 3.20pm.

A Whangaroa local told NZ Herald the helicopter had got into trouble taking off and ended up “on its side”.

Photos of the aircraft show it suffered badly damaged rotor blades.

In the upcoming days, our investigative team will endeavor to ascertain the events that transpired and the underlying reasons behind them.

Police the incident happened when a helicopter had difficulties during take-off in Northland.

The aircraft, ZK-HDX, is an R22 helicopter that was first registered in New Zealand on 21 November 1990.
