The flight will initially operate twice weekly in addition to the airlines current daily Shanghai to Auckland flights.

The airline has already flown to Auckland for over ten years and currently flies from both Shanghai as well as Hangzhou via Sydney.

China Eastern plans to begin the flights in December this year, subject to regulator approval.

The new flight will be operated using the airlines fleet of long haul Boeing 777-300ERs.

Prime Minister Christopher Luxon said New Zealand’s position opens up exciting opportunities to grow global aviation links “This new connection to Auckland between the dynamic economies of Asia and South America, is a great step forward and will support a more resilient and diverse aviation network”
