LATAM to end Sydney to Auckland flights after over three decades

From late October this year, LATAM will end its longstanding Auckland to Sydney route.

The flight continues on from LATAMs Santiago to Auckland route. It is currently operated by their fleet of 787-9s but has previously been operated using their now retired, A340s and 767s.

This marks the end of an era for the airline as it has operated the route for decades with some records suggesting the route began as early as the late 1980s.

The flight was popular due to its low airfares compared to other airlines that operate the route.

Previously, the flight was operated due to aircraft not being capable of flying direct to Australia from South America. However, now, LATAM can operate direct flights to both Auckland and Sydney separately without requiring any stopovers. This means the short flight between Auckland and Sydney is no longer required and therefore will be ended.

However, LATAM is not concluding its Santiago to Auckland route. It will instead reduce flights to four times per week while increasing capacity on flights to Sydney and Melbourne from Santiago.
