QANTAS reveals next-generation cabin upgrades for A330 aircraft

Qantas has introduced new Economy seats featuring larger entertainment screens across its Airbus A330 fleet, which services international routes to Hong Kong, Singapore, and Tokyo. This enhancement is part of a major refurbishment investment aimed at upgrading the in-flight experience.

The multimillion-dollar cabin upgrade, set for 10 A330-200 aircraft, includes:

  • Brand-new Economy seats designed to enhance comfort in line with Qantas' Project Sunrise ultra-long-haul flights.

  • 4K OLED 13.3” entertainment touchscreens in Economy with a next-gen interface, offering a screen 20% larger than the previous version.

  • USB-C fast charging ports and Bluetooth audio connectivity in Economy, allowing passengers to use their own headphones.

Additional cabin updates include refreshed mood lighting, as well as new curtains and carpets throughout the A330 cabins. The Business Suites, featuring fully-flat beds, will remain as they have received strong positive feedback and are consistent with those on Qantas’ A380 and 787 Dreamliner fleets.

Work on the first A330 is scheduled to begin in mid-2025 at Qantas’ Brisbane maintenance facility, with the refurbished aircraft expected to enter service by the end of that year. The full upgrade program is slated for completion by the end of 2026.

According to Qantas International CEO Cam Wallace, this significant investment will improve the in-flight experience for both passengers and crew. “These cabin upgrades enable us to bring next-generation features and designs to our existing fleet," he said, noting that passengers can expect Economy seats that maximize comfort and offer amenities suited for international travel.

Qantas finalized its fleet renewal plan last year with an order for 24 new aircraft—12 Airbus A350s and 12 Boeing 787s—to replace its A330s starting in FY27. These new long-range jets will continue to service current A330 routes and open up new destinations as they join the fleet.
