The new route will be operated four times per week starting in September this year. The new route from Ho Chi Minh City in Vietnam to Auckland will connect travellers to Vietjets extensive route network. The flight to Auckland will begin using Airbus A330s.

Vietjet is a low cost airline based in Vietnam with hubs across the country. The airline currently flies predominantly to Asia and Australia. It currently serves six Vietnam-Australia routes, Brisbane, Melbourne, Perth, and Sydney to Ho Chi Minh City, and Melbourne and Sydney to Hanoi.

Vietjet has a fleet of 94 aircraft, 24 of which are wide bodies used for its longer flights. The airline has orders for 20 Airbus A350-900s which will begin replacing its A330-300s from 2026. They also have orders for 320 more narrow body jets to increase capacity on short haul routes.

New Zealand Prime Minister, Christopher Luxon said during the route announcement event “I'm very pleased with Vietjet's announcement that they will develop a new route to New Zealand, strengthening the connectivity and the people-to-people links between our two countries.”
